MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF ALÁÀFIN OF OYO, OBA LAMIDI ADEYEMI
It is with deep regrets that we have heard of the demise of Kabiyesi, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Atanda, the Alaafin of Oyo. We sympathize with the royal family, and all Oyo indigenes at home and abroad on the passing of this great monarch.
Oba Lamidi Adeyemi was a man of wisdom who served his people well, and under his rule as the longest-reigning Alaafin, Oyo has witnessed tremendous development. He was undoubtedly committed to the progress and peace of Oyo land. Kabiyesi was an emulative leader par excellence, and a respected royal father. He will be greatly remembered for ineffaceable service as a custodian of the people’s cultural heritage and traditions.
The transition of our great monarch is a loss to the Yoruba race, but as a people of culture, we believe that Oba Lamidi has gone to be with his forefathers having played his part in history. Kabiyesi’s principles and love for his people (and humanity, in general), will be his enduring legacies, and they will forever speak for him. He was royalty with a difference and he will be missed for his fatherly roles and wise counsel.
We, the Youths for Tinubu initiative pay tribute to a life well-lived, and dedicated to the service of his people. We offer our deep and sincere condolences to the royal family, and we hope that you find comfort in the memories and the celebration of Kabiyesi’s great life.
Rest in peace, Iku Baba Yeye!
